January, 2008
Dear Friends of Habitat for Humanity,
That’s a lot of can’ts. But we still said, “We can, and we will.” And we did!
In 2007, we held a dedication ceremony for not one, but three homes in Santa Barbara. We proved that, with help from this community, we CAN change lives. In fact, three hard-working, deserving families moved into their new homes in April 2007.
They’re taking full advantage of their new opportunity. One family has started their own landscaping business. Two of the moms now teach Spanish to the kindergarten class at Monte Vista School. One young man is considering college rather than facing a bleak future of living in transitional housing. And two of the little girls, who once never dared venture outside because of gang activity, now merrily ride their bikes around their driveway.
This first building project was won through the hard work of many. And it is only the beginning. We are now in the planning stages of our second building project, which consists of four homes for local low-income families. We hope to select the families and begin construction this year. And we’d love to see YOU on the job site!
The process of ending poverty housing in Santa Barbara is a journey with many steps. We welcome you as we continue this journey and hope that those of you committed to the mission of Habitat for Humanity will decide to travel with us. If you’re interested in what’s happening locally with Habitat for Humanity, we invite you to join our mailing list and get involved right here in Santa Barbara.
With warm regards,
